If you were told that a treasure grows on the ground, would you believe it? Sounds too good to be true, so believe it. Wheatgrass, the “magic tonic,” is an inexhaustible treasure trove of essential wealth for the human body. One kilo of wheatgrass is equivalent to 35 kilos of green vegetables. Germinating wheat seeds into grass at a height of 10-15 cm brings us the coveted product with miraculous properties. Wheatgrass is harvested and dried at a temperature not exceeding 42 degrees to keep the active ingredients alive and ‘fresh’, and so its properties remain.
Nature of the plant: The process of squeezing wheatgrass in a machine designed for this purpose can be a difficult task for those with sensitive stomachs. The smell is very pungent, similar to the smell that remains in the air after mowing the lawn. The taste of the fresh juice is “green” and intense. Those with a keen sense of discernment will be able to sense its sweetness along with its deep, grassy flavor. In contrast, mixing wheatgrass powder with water produces a very delicate drink. The drink has a dark green hue, but unlike its color, its aroma is very delicate and modest, the “grassy” smell is not so noticeable but its presence can still be felt. Its taste is quite neutral and its drinking experience is completely different (compared to juice), more relaxed, (due to the delicate flavor) one might even say liberating, because once the body absorbs such a great wealth of nutritional values, it can rest for a moment from the constant search for them and simply be.
In ancient Egypt, wheatgrass was used for its healing properties as early as 5,000 years ago. The properties of the herb were discovered in the Western world in 1930, when a farmer used it in an attempt to save his sick chickens. After the experiment was successful, the farmer marketed it to corporations in his area for the same purpose. In 1940, it also began to be used for food and human use. In traditional Chinese medicine, wheatgrass was used to turn gray hair back to its natural hair color, on the assumption that the pigment of the hair is affected by the quality and vitality of the blood and the strength of the kidneys, the abundant chlorophyll found in wheatgrass contributes to strengthening these.
